I discovered this method of handling watercolor a few years ago and was very excited to try it. It makes a very lightweight piece that doesn't need to be framed. At this point I have used this method on many of my newer paintings as you can see on my website.
After the painting is finished it is sealed with a UV resistant coating as it will not be under glass. It is then mounted to a cradled wood panel made from birch. After pressing to make sure the fixative has a good seal it is trimmed and the edges are sanded for a smooth finish.
The piece is then sealed with several light coats of cold wax to protect the surface of the painting. I find it brings out the colors and makes for a beautifully vivid finish.
Thanks for reading and following! I hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day with your family. As a subscriber I am offering you a 25% discount on any original piece of art and free shipping until the end of May.
Artfully yours,
Becky
